Fall Patio Inspiration
Fall can be the perfect time to enjoy your patio or backyard space. If you live in a warmer region, this may be the most enjoyable time to be outside - fewer mosquitos and no oppressive heat. If you live in a chillier climate, have throws and blankets on the ready and curl up on your Outdoor Nook and enjoy the crisp autumn air.
We have put together our five tips below and a moodboard to provide inspiration to get that perfect fall look.
Our tips for the perfect patio for fall:
Pumpkins
Ok, obvious, but they are the quintessential item for fall. Mix it up with different varieties - I love the pale shades of white and light green. There are so many ways to stop your pumpkin from rotting (WD40 / Floor wax - who knew!). Here is an excellent link for tips for preserving carved and non-carved pumpkins.
2. Add Sheepskin and Tartan to your Sofa
Throws in sheepskin or faux sheepskin, tartan blankets, chunky knits all add cosiness and a real autumnal feel to your patio set up.
3. Get Cosy - Logs on the ready
A pile of dry logs ready to be thrown into the firepit extends your time outside. When you don't have to go searching for fuel, it removes the stress - all you have sit back and relax.
4. Fall Blooms - Chrysanthemum
Chrysanthemums in various shades of rust, orange, reds and whites are the ultimate planters for autumn. There are a surprisingly affordable plant and look great in simple terracotta pots or even salvaged jars. A bonus is that when cut, chrysanthemum flowers can last up to two weeks in water so that they will add vibrant colour to your indoor flower arrangements as well. Remember to water generously when the weather is dry as chrysanthemum roots are not very deep. Always try to water the roots and not the leaves, as they are susceptible to mildew. Finally Chrysanthemums flower in response to daylight shortening; if they are planted under a bright porch or door light this may confuse them!
5. Give your Outdoor Furniture a quick clean
After the heat and dust of the summer, this is the perfect time to give your furniture a very quick clean. A simple solution of mild soap and water will clean the wicker on your Outdoor Nook. Use a soft bristle brustle or sponge to remove any dirt or debris. To clean your cushions, use a mild soap (such as Woolite) mixed with warm water, then use a soft-bristle brush to clean the fabric. Rinse off the soap and allow to air dry.
